Learners experienced a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park this term to see the work of the American artist Leonardo Drew. The large-scale assembled sculpture is described as a ‘powerful reflection on the weight of collective experience, memory, and the cycles of life and death, decay and regeneration.’ Learners had mixed opinions about the work, which engaged them in discussion and conversation. Connecting to the ideas of the artist, a printing workshop ended the session and learners repurposed fallen and decaying leaves that they had collected and used these as art stencils to produce screen prints on to calico material.
